N Korea Fires Missile Which Landed in Sea of Japan, Trump Briefed

The firing is a violation of the UN Security Council resolutions, Japan said.

North Korea fired what appeared to be a short-range Scud missile on Monday that flew about 450 km and landed in the sea off its east coast, South Korea's military said.

The launch was immediately reported to President Moon Jae-in, who called a meeting of the National Security Council at 7:30 am, the South Korean office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement.

Japan has protested against North Korea's latest launch of a missile, which appears to have landed in Japan's exclusive economic zone in the Sea of Japan, said Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga.

This ballistic missile launch by North Korea is highly problematic from the perspective of the safety of shipping and air traffic and is a clear violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions.

"Japan absolutely cannot tolerate North Korea's repeated provocative actions. We have strongly protested to North Korea and condemn its actions in the strongest terms."

No damage to planes or ships had been detected, Suga said.

US President Donald Trump has been briefed about North Korea firing of a projectile, the White House has reported.

North Korean missile was tracked for six minutes and landed in Sea of Japan...The assessment was that it didn’t pose threat to North America.

Japan PM Shinzo Abe said that a specific response to North Korea will be considered with the US and that they will stay in close communication with South Korea.
