Police Say 8 Killed in Shootings in the German City of Hanau

Police say eight people have been killed in shootings in the German city of Hanau on Wednesday evening.

A short police statement gave no information on the victims. It said that authorities are searching for the perpetrators, and it is not immediately clear what the reason for the shootings may have been.

Regional public broadcaster Hessischer Rundfunk reported, without citing sources, that an attack took place in a hookah lounge in the center of the city. It said witnesses reported hearing eight or nine shots and seeing at least one person lying on the ground.

Three people have died and around 10 have been injured after a crane collapsed on the set of movie Indian 2, during shooting of the film near Chennai. The injured persons have been shifted to a hospital. More details awaited.

Four Well-Known Mumbai Hotels Get ‘’LeT’’ Threat Mail

Four high-end hotels in Mumbai on Wednesday received threat e-mail, with its sender claiming to be a member of the terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), a police official said.

Hotel Leela, Hotel Princess, Hotel Park and Hotel Ramada Inn received the threat mails, following which they were thoroughly checked. However, nothing suspicious was found during the check, the official said.

SC Directs Rajasthan Govt to Stop Illegal Sand Mining

The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the Rajasthan government, all collectors and SPs to stop illegal sand mining in the state.

The court also sought an action-taken report from the state government within four weeks, and directed its central empowered committee to conduct an inquiry into illegal mining in Rajasthan.

Delhi Court Raps CBI For Not Conducting Psychological, Lie Detector Test on Asthana

A Delhi court on Wednesday asked the CBI as to why there no psychological and lie detector test conducted on its former special director Rakesh Asthana, who was recently given a clean chit in a bribery case.

Special CBI Judge Sanjeev Aggarwal directed the initial investigating officer, Ajay Kumar Bassi, in the case to appear before it on 28 February.

Three Experts Appointed Members of NDMA

Lt General (Retd) Syed Ata Hasnain, who was GoC-in-C of the Army's Srinagar-based 15 Corps, was on Wednesday appointed as a member of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) along with two others, officials said.

Former Director General of the Coast Guard Rajendra Singh and policy advisor, disaster recovery, climate change and disaster risk reduction, UNDP, Krishna Vatsa have also been appointed as members of the NDMA.

Kamal Kishore, presently serving as member of the NDMA, has been given a fresh term of five years with effect from 16 February.

BJP MLA Dulu Mahato House Raided

Police raided the residence of BJP MLA Dulu Mahato, in Dhanbad in connection with cases of land acquisition, Arms Act and molestation. According to SSP Dhanbad, Mahato managed to escape. Four of his supporters arrested.

“Raids being held at several places to arrest him," he added.

JNU Sedition Case: Court Directs Delhi Govt to File Status Report

A Delhi court on Wednesday directed the city government to file a status report in connection with the JNU sedition case till 3 April. The court also directed the police to send a reminder to the government seeking requisite sanctions.

Requisite sanction have yet not been received to prosecute Kanhaiya Kumar and others, the police told the court. The matter has been adjourned to 3 April.

Ammonia Gas Leaks From Cold Storage Plant in Kurukshetra, 15 Hospitalised

Fifteen people have been hospitalised and 45 others were affected after inhaling ammonia gas leaking from a cold storage unit at Shahbad Markanda, about 20 kms from Kurukshetra in Haryana, the police said on Wednesday.

The leakage started at the cold storage at about 9 pm on Tuesday when all employees had stepped out for dinner.

Goa Ports Minister Michael Lobo has said the off-shore casinos should not be shifted out of the Mandovi river in Panaji, and suggested that more such vessels be introduced in other rivers of the state.

3 Militants Killed in Encounter in J&K's Pulwama

At least three militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, police officials said on Wednesday.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Tral area of Pulwama district late on Tuesday following information about presence of militants there, a police official said. He said during searches, an encounter broke out between militants and security forces.
