United States First Lady Melania Trump has created a storm for wearing a jacket reading “I really don't care, do u?”, while visiting a a Texas shelter housing migrant children separated from their parents on Thursday, 21 June.
Melania wore the hooded green khaki jacket designed by fashion chain Zara as she boarded a flight from Andrews Air Force Base to the border facility in McAllen, Texas, reported Reuters.
She had it on again when she left the aircraft upon returning to Washington DC later in the evening.
Donald Trump immediately jumped to Melania’s rescue and tweeted that the message was for “fake news media”.
Stephanie Grisham, Melania Trump's spokeswoman was quoted by Reuters asking people not to read between the lines.
"It's a jacket," Grisham told reporters. "There was no hidden message. After today's important visit to Texas, I hope the media isn't going to choose to focus on her wardrobe."
The backlash came fast and furious on Twitter.
One citizen also started ireallydocare.com wherein users can click the link and it will take them to a site where they can donate to groups helping immigrants.
Melania’s unannounced visit to Texas came a day after President Donald Trump signed an executive order to modify his administration's practice of separating children from their migrant parents when they illegally enter the United States.
The president ordered federal agencies on Thursday to begin reuniting immigrant families at the US-Mexico border.
