How would you react when you open your Twitter feed and find out that your selfie has been morphed to make you look like a terrorist?

Veerender Jubbal will be able to tell you.

The images above show how Jubbal’s selfie, taken from an iPad, was photoshopped to show him carrying a Quran and wearing a suicide vest. The image went viral after claims were made that Jubbal was involved in the Paris terror attacks.

The Indian Express reports that one of the first tweets carrying Jubbal’s morphed image went out from the Twitter handle @abualut8, and was later deleted.

A Spanish newspaper La Razon, shockingly, carried his image on the front page

Even though La Razon tweeted an apology, Jubbal felt his reputation and safety had been compromised.

Jubbal is a Canadian national who has never been to Paris but found himself at the receiving end of what can only be termed as unnecessary social media outrage, which was a result of the misleading photograph. Here are some of his tweets.

Jubbal also expressed concerns about his safety in light of the images going viral, and even though he received support from a lot of Twitterati, some of them also went on to point out the fact that the incident can be termed as a brand of social media terrorism.
