‘He Named Me Malala’ Gets BAFTA Nomination

Davis Guggenheim’s touching film on Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai, ‘He Named Me Malala’, lands a BAFTA nomination.

He Named Me Malala, a documentary on the life of Pakistani activist for female education and the youngest-ever Nobel Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai, has landed a nomination in the Documentary category of the upcoming 69th British Academy of Film and Television Acts (BAFTA) Awards.

Directed by American filmmaker Davis Guggenheim, the film opens a facet of Malala’s life on the big screen and tells of how a teenage girl, who was shot in the head on her way to school in Pakistan in 2012 by the Taliban, is undeterred by the threats and continues her fight for girls’ right to education.

The documentary is nominated for an award alongside filmmaker Asif Kapadia’s Amy, Matthew Heineman’s Cartel Land, Marlon Stevan Riley’s Listen to Me and Jennifer Peedom’s Sherpa, read the statement on BAFTA’s official site.

The 69th BAFTA Awards will be held on February 14 at the Royal Opera House in London.

He Named Me Malala is also expected to be nominated in the same category at the upcoming 88th Academy Awards, whose final nominations will be announced on January 14.
