Islamic State, Kurdish insurgents and Syrian-Kurdish fighters are attacking Turkey to try and take advantage of last month’s failed coup, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmus said on Friday.

A suicide truck bomb launched by the outlawed militant group Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) caused a blast at a police headquarters in Turkey’s south eastern province of Sirnak on Friday, the local governor’s office said in a statement.

Death Toll Rises to 11

The death toll of the car bomb explosion in Turkey shot upto to 11 which included three civilians, while 78 people were wounded, local broadcaster, NTV reported.

Nine people, including one police officer, were killed in the car bomb explosion, while 64 others were wounded, hospital sources said.

An explosion rocked a police checkpoint in the town of Cizre in southeast Turkey on Friday, news channels reported.

State-run Anadolu Agency blamed the attack on the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), which has been involved in almost daily clashes in the region since last July, when a ceasefire between it and the government collapsed.

Ambulances were sent to the scene, according to news channel NTV, which showed large plumes of smoke billowing from the site.

Cizre is located in Sirnak, a province that borders both Syria and Iraq and has a largely Kurdish population.
