At Least 7 Killed as Driver Rams Car Into Crowd in China

At least seven people were killed and seven others injured after a man rammed his car into a crowd in China’s central Hubei province, before being shot dead by the police on Friday, 22 March, reported PTI.

A total of seven persons, including the perpetrator, have been killed in the incident, state-run CGTN reported.

The seven injured have been hospitalised, the report said.

Authorities in Zaoyang city, northern Hubei province, said the 44-year-old restaurant owner Cui Lidong attempted to kill his wife and daughter on Friday morning before hitting people on the street with a car, according to the Associated Press.

Incidents of random attacks on civilians by disgruntled persons have become common in China in the recent years.

Last September, three people were killed and 43 others injured when a man drove his SUV into a crowd and later went on a stabbing spree in China's Hunan province.

Some persons carrying knives targeted primary schools and malls to vent out their anger.
