The story of twins Anias and Jadon McDonald – who were born conjoined at the head – has created waves on the internet.

The two boys, who hail from the US, were separated after a 16-hour-long, complex surgery in October this year. The twins are currently recovering at a rehabilitation centre, after having been discharged from the hospital.

Almost two months after the surgery, the twins appear to be well on the road to recovery. Their mother, Nicole McDonald, posted a video of the newly separated twins on Facebook.

While Nicole has admitted to having been emotional about their recovery, she also pointed out that her “her insides turned” after reading some “extremely cruel comments” posted by people on her children's condition.

The survival rate of craniopagus children – twins who share a cranium – is believed to very low. However, the McDonald twins, who were operated upon by Dr Philip Goodrich, appear to be recovering well.

What makes the story of the boys' recovery more heart-warming is the fact that many people helped fund the expensive surgery procedure through a campaign on the internet.
