Instagram comedian Jess Hilarious, also known as Jessica Moore, has been facing backlash on social media for allegedly getting four turbaned Sikh men kicked off a plane on Saturday, 16 March, for making her feel “scared,” reported Newsweek.
Jess posted a since-deleted tweet with a video pointing out turbaned Sikh men boarding the plane. In the first video, she was seen getting scared of the men.
In the video that followed after the flight was temporarily evacuated, she was seen justifying her act, saying that she felt threatened and she had the right to feel that way. She also posed a question about the evacuation for which no official reason was given, implying that her suspicions might have been right.
In a third video she posted after boarding the flight again, she said that she could not see the men on the flight and was relieved about it.
BJP Delhi MLA Manjinder S Sirsa shared her collated video on Twitter.
After facing massive backlash that called her racist, she posted an apology saying she was not aware of “different types of Muslims.”
"Look Yall Im not racist and never have I ever been...We have Muslims in my family. However, I was totally unaware of the different types of Muslims, so yes I admit I'm ignorant to the facts so teach me," she wrote on Instagram.
Many took to social media to call the comedian’s act racist and slammed her for ignorance.
The incident comes just days after at least 50 people were killed in a terrorist attack on two mosques in New Zealand’s Christchurch.
