China has opened a new 409 km toll free expressway, linking Lhasa and Nyingchi, reported ANI. Lhasa and Nyingchi – with Nyingchi being close to the Arunachal Pradesh border – are major cities and tourist attractions in the Tibet Autonomous Region.

According to the state-run Xinhua news agency, the expressway cuts Lhasa-Nyingchi travel time from eight hours to five hours, at a speed limit of 80 km per hour, and heavy trucks are temporarily banned from using the expressway. It cost $5.8 billion to construct it.

The India-China border, covering the 3,488 km-long Line of Actual Control (LAC), is disputed.
