Noted Indian-American journalist Fareed Zakaria, who happens to be a Muslim, has unleashed a scathing attack on US President President Donald Trump’s over his #MuslimBan.
Zakaria said he sees himself “first and foremost as an American” for it was an identity that he worked hard to get – and it wasn’t something he got by “the accident of birth”.
He stated that in the uneasy political climate of America, he acknowledges his religion, something that’s being convoluted by “Donald Trump’s bigotry and demagoguery”.
On January 27, the new POTUS had signed an executive order banning the entry of nationals of seven Muslim-dominated countries for 90 days. This was in keeping with a promise he had made during his deeply divisive campaign, which also saw Trump run down other communities like Latin Americans.
In fact, Betsy DeVos, the new Education Secretary, has said the Trump administration could allow taking guns to school campuses to “fight off grizzly bears”.
Zakaria also said that Trump’s labelling people will only instill fear and make an entire race be seen as suspects, which is why people from across the spectrum are condemning the US President and fighting back.
