A 12-year-old girl committed suicide while live streaming it on the social media platform Live.me, after claiming she had been a victim of sexual abuse by her step-father.

The video went viral, for all the wrong reasons, being shared thousands of times, duplicated and posted on different websites, before it was taken down, as reported by Independent.

The YouTube video had garnered 40,000 views before it was finally taken down, yet some other sites continue to show the video and even monetarily benefit from advertising each time it’s viewed.

Katelyn Nicole Davies’ suicide was only known to police at her hometown of Cedartown in Georgia, after police forces for California gave them a tip-off.

Several people have contacted the Polk Country Police, asking them to respect the girl and her family and to take the video down from various websites, which is becoming an increasingly difficult task.

The video can be especially distressing to young children, those dealing with depression and similar experiences of sexual, physical abuse, which is why it was necessary to take it down.
