A woman journalist of a television news channel in Bangladesh has been hacked to death with a sharp weapon by some unidentified assailants at her home, media reports said on Wednesday, 29 August.
She lived in Radhanagar area of Pabna district, some 150 kms from Dhaka.
Nodi, who is survived by a nine-year-old daughter, was awaiting divorce from her husband, the report said.
The assailants, said to be around 10 to 12, came riding motorcycles and rang the doorbell of her house at around 10:45 PM on Tuesday, 28 August, it said.
When she opened the door, they indiscriminately hacked her and fled the spot, Pabna Additional Superintendent of Police Ibne Mizan said.
The assailants used a sharp-edged weapon to attack her, police said. Some locals rushed her to hospital where she was declared brought dead.
Police have launched several teams to nab the culprits, Additional SP Gautam Kumar Biswas said.
Journalists in Pabna have condemned the killing and demanded that the murderers be immediately brought to justice.
Her mother claimed that her daughter had named her ex-husband as one of the attackers before she died.
Nodi had sued Rajib in a dowry case. Her elder sister Champa Begum was scheduled to testify before the court in the case on 28 August, the report said.
Champa claimed that Rajib and his associates had verbally abused her on the court premises before the hearing, the report added.
