CLAIM

A video which shows armed police officers searching and handcuffing four men is doing the rounds on the internet with a claim that the Vidisha Police has arrested terrorists from a building near the Collector’s office.

The claim in Hindis reads, “मध्य प्रदेश के विदिशा जिला कलेक्ट्रेट के भवन की निर्माणाधीन बिल्डिंग में चार आतंकवादी घुसे जिसे जिला पुलिस बल विदिशा द्वारा रेस्क्यू कर जिंदा पकड़ने में सफलता प्राप्त की बधाई हो ऐसे पुलिस वालों को |” (The police was successful in arresting four terrorists in Madhya Pradesh’s Vidisha. They were in a building near the Collector’s office.)

The video has been widely shared on Facebook with the same claim.

WHAT’S THE TRUTH?

While the video has not been manipulated in anyway, the claim along with the video is completely false. The video is actually of a mock drill and not of an actual arrest made by the Vidisha police.

WHAT WE FIND OUT

There are multiple red flags in the video which suggest that the video doesn’t show a real arrest by the police.

  • While the police is searching for the alleged terrorist, a voice in the background can be heard asking the police to be careful with his hand as he has an injury.
  • When the police is taking a picture with all the ‘terrorists’, voice in the background asks everyone to stop smiling.

We then searched online to get more details of the incident and came across a report on a news portal ‘Khabar state’ which had covered this mock drill. The report had the same group picture that can be seen in the viral video.

Moreover, there have been multiple instances where police mock drills have been shared as real incidents. The Quint has also debunked many such viral claims in the past.
