CLAIM
A video circulating on social media claims that it is from India. The video shows a woman beating a child and handling the child in an inhuman way. The claim along the video reads:
‘इस वीडियो को पूरे भारत में भेजें और किसी भी तरह से दुनिया के कोने-कोने तक पहुँचें। बच्चों को बचाओ Plz। नौकरानियों के साथ बच्चों को अकेला न छोड़ें मैंने इसे साझा किया। और आप कल्पना नहीं कर सकते हैं कि आप शेयर करके कितनी बड़ी मदद कर रहे हैं।’
(Translated: Send this video across India and to every corner of the world. Please save children. With jobs, don’t leave the children alone. You cannot imagine that by sharing you are being of such a big help)
Several social media users have shared the video on Twitter with the same claim.
The Quint received a query about this viral video via its Whatsapp helpline.
THE VIDEO IS NOT FROM INDIA
The claim along the video is false. The video is not from India, but Malaysia.
We did a frame-to-frame analysis using InVID, a video verification tool, and then reverse-searched each frame on Yandex. This led us to an article published by AsiaOne on 12 June titled as ‘Malaysian police looking for woman filmed abusing baby.’
As per the report, corporate communications head of Royal Malaysia Police Datuk Asmawati Ahmad claimed that no police report had been filed related to the video till then.
They had posted the viral video on their official Facebook page on 11 June asking for public cooperation to be able to find information about the incident.
