Tarek Fatah Tweets Video, Claims Pak Flags Raised in Tamil Nadu

The flags shown in the video are not Pakistan flags, but flags of the Indian Union Muslim League.

CLAIM

Canada-based writer Tarek Fatah, on 9 June, tweeted a video of a bike rally, claiming that Pakistan flags were being waved in Tamil Nadu.

The same video was also tweeted by one SahaJio, who claimed that the video was from Neikkarapatti in Tamil Nadu's Palani taluk and was taken during Ramzan.

The video was also shared on Facebook by the page 'We-are-Rascals', with the same claim as SahaJio's.

The flags shown in the video are not Pakistan flags, but flags of the Indian Union Muslim League.

HOW WE FOUND OUT

The Quint reached out to Yuvaraj, a police officer in Palani Taluka, who confirmed that the video was indeed from Neikkarapatti vllage, as claimed.

"The video is from Neikkarapatti. It is of a procession which was held during Ramzan here in the Kottaimanthai area of the village. It is an annual event, and happens every year," he said.

He further added that the flags in the video were not Pakistan flags, but IUML flags.

“They are not Pakistan flags. If you notice, there is no white column on the flag, which is the differentiating factor. These are Muslim league flags,” he said. 

A longer version of the same video was uploaded on to Youtube on 5 June by a channel named 'Onion Kalakki'.

The description of this channel too states that the flags seen in the video are not Pakistan flags, but Muslim league flags.

Videos and images of the IUML flags have time and again gone viral as Pakistan flags.
