A video going viral on the internet claims that it shows pro-Palestine supporters clashing with the police in Spain's Barcelona amid the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas.

At the time of writing this report, the video had recorded more than 35,000 views.

What is the truth?: While the incident is from Barcelona, it could be traced back to November 2020. The video shows anti-lockdown protestors clashing with the police.

How did we find that out?: We extracted several keyframes from the viral video using a video verification tool, InVID, and performed a reverse image search on them.

  • This directed us to a report in Daily Mail which carried the same video.

  • On going the entire report, we found that the video showed protestors clashing with the police over COVID-19 restrictions in Barcelona. The report mentioned that the violence erupted after Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez imposed a nationwide curfew on 25 October.

  • It further said that a large group of people were seen running towards a police vehicle and pelted with various objects, including metal railings.

  • It also carried visuals from the protests, where the situation turned violent.

The report was published on 2 November 2020.

Other sources: On performing a keyword search, we found the same video posted by an X user named 'Scarcity News'. It was uploaded on 2 November 2020.

News reports: According to Reuters, people opposing COVID-19 restrictions clashed with the police in the city. The incident saw about 50 demonstrators throwing fireworks and bricks at the police personnel.
