CLAIM

A viral video claims that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was drunk while recording a video. The message along with the video reads, ‘सराबी केजरीवाल ने विदेशी दारू पीकर अपनी पोल खोली एक मुख्यमंत्री ये नीच हरकत करेगा तो दिल्ली जैसे राज्यों का कैसे भला होगा। (Translated: Drunk Kejriwal drank English liquor and revealed his secrets. If a chief minister acts like this, how will areas like Delhi progress? See a drunk Kejriwal. He is not in his senses and is responsible for looting the money of contract workers to drink liquor. Gopal Rai is hiding behind.)

Several social media users have shared the video on Facebook and Twitter.

TRUE OR FALSE?

The claims made in the viral video are false. The viral video is an edited version of an old video. Yandex reverse search image led us to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-Punjab’s tweet.

The official handle of AAP-Punjab tweeted the original video on 29 January 2017. In the video, it is very evident that Arvind Kejriwal was not drunk. The video was shared in the run-up to the Punjab Legislative Assembly elections held in February 2017. In the video, he opined on how current Chief Minister of Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh and former chief minister of Punjab, Parkash Singh Badal had claimed that it was their last election. He made an appeal to not vote for such people. In the video, he also urged that people should cast their vote for an honest party like AAP.

Further, the Delhi chief minister had also shared the original video on his official Facebook account.

In the newly surfaced now viral video, the audio has been deliberately slowed down so that Kejriwal appears drunk while recording the video. It is evident because even the background sound has been slowed down which doesn’t sync well.
