CLAIM

A video has been doing the rounds on social media, showing severely injured Sikh soldiers of the Indian Army at the border.

The video is being circulated with an accompanying message that reads: “Salute to Indian Army.” It had been shared by a Facebook page called President saab and had garnered 2.1 million views and 50,024 shares at the time of writing this article.

Another Facebook page, Punjabi, had received 93,400 views and 20,458 shares after posting the video on 6 January.

THE TRUTH?

The men seen in the viral video are actors and not soldiers of the Indian Army. In the video, ‘official_gurstar’ flashes at the bottom of the screen.

On searching this handle on Instagram, we found the account of Gurcharan Singh. He is the same person who is seen in the video. His bio on Instagram reads, “ASIA SIKH MODEL, Mr Singh 2k17win, Subedar Joginder Singh Film, SGPC All College win, MrPatiala, MrSingh, SikhRider[2k16].”

The video was actually shot during the making of the film, ‘Subedar Joginder Singh,’ released in April 2018. The film is based on the life of Subedar Joginder Singh, who is a Param Vir Chakra awardee.

Singh had shared images and a video that show that the injuries on his face in the viral video are nothing but make up.

He had also shared images from the movie set on his Instagram profile.

In a video shared by Singh recently, he can be heard making an appeal to the viewers to help him in deleting the viral video from the internet. He is seen holding a phone that is showing the viral video.
