The image has been shared by several users on Twitter with the identical narrative.

TRUE OR FALSE?

The viral image shared by various social media users is fake. The image is actually from the 2018 G20 Buenos Aires summit held on 30 November and 1 December, a Google reverse image search showed. The original image reads, ‘MODI G20’, not ‘MODI 420’. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had taken to Twitter and shared the original image on 1 December.

WHY 420?

“420” or "charsobees" is a popular slang used by Indians. It is used to signify a fraud or a trickster. The slang finds its origin in the Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code. Under this section, offences such as cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property are included.

THE 2018 G20 SUMMIT

Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a football jersey from FIFA’s president Gianni Infantino at the 13th G20 Summit in Buenos Aires, Argentina. On 29 November, Modi opined about how football acts as a connecting medium between India and Argentina. In his three-day visit, Modi further announced that the 2022 G20 Summit will be hosted by India as the country will celebrate 75 years of Independence, reported The Indian Express.

The G20 Summit is as international forum that consists of 19 individual countries and the European Union.
