Misleading Photos Claim Crowd Swell at PM Modi’s Jodhpur Rally

On 4 December 2018, Twitter user Rishi Bagree, who is followed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, tweeted a set of three images claiming that there was a huge crowd at the BJP’s rally in Jodhpur.

CLAIM:

Bagree claimed that the photos were from Jodhpur, and that they have given a “panic attack” to Congress.

“From a sure shot Congress win, Rajasthan has moved to 50-50 zone – with BJP on upswing and Congress on downhill momentum,” he tweeted.

Bagree’s tweet had been deleted at the time of publishing this article.

The Quint’s WebQoof did a Google image reverse search of each of the photos tweeted by Bagree to ascertain if they were actually from Jodhpur rally on 3 December 2018, attended by the prime minister.

PHOTO 1:

This was one of the photos posted by Bagree – claiming that it was from the Jodhpur rally.

While the photo is actually from a BJP’s rally in Jodhpur, it is not from 2018, but from 2013. A reverse search showed that the party’s I-T in-charge had tweeted the same photo in 2013, saying that there was a swelling crowd at Modi’s rally.

News portal Desh Gujarat had also published the same photo on 29 November 2013.

PHOTO 2:

The second photo tweeted from Bagree was also tweeted by individual accounts, claiming that it was from Modi’s Jodhpur rally in 2013.

PHOTO 3:

People on Twitter claimed that the third photo is from Kisan Hunkar Rally organised by Rashtriya Loktantrik Party founder Hanuman Beniwal.

With the third photo, Bagree spread misinformation by trying to pass off an independent MLA’s rally as that of PM Narendra Modi’s in Jodhpur.

While the photo looks like a screengrab from the following video, WebQoof could not independently verify it.

A reverse image search also showed a similar image uploaded for various Kisan Hunkar Rally videos.
