CLAIM
An image is doing rounds on social media with a claim that the man has been punished for publicly burning the Quran. It is further claimed that the hands of the aforementioned man started burning on their own because ‘Allah himself has taken the responsibility of protecting the holy book’.
TRUE OR FALSE?
The Quint can confirm that the claim is misleading as the images shared in the form of a collage are absolutely unrelated. A Google reverse search of the two images directed us to news reports related to them.
IMAGE 1
The image at the top, where a man can be seen on a hospital bed, is of Paul Gaylord, an Oregon man who contracted a rare case of the plague trying to take a mouse from the jaws of a choking cat, reported The Guardian.
According to a report by Oregon Live, Gaylord was hospitalised in critical condition with plague in June 2012.
IMAGE 2
The second image is from Norway, where an anti-Islam rally turned violent after a man burnt the Quran. A demonstration held by Stop Islamization of Norway (SIAN) in the city of Kristiansand turned violent after the group's leader, Lars Thorsen, burnt the holy book, reported Russia Today.
