CLAIM
A video circulating on social media, claims to show firework display in Mumbai’s Borivali West area as part of the recently concluded Diwali celebrations.
The claim along with the video reads: “Fireworks for Diwali in Borivali West, Mumbai , India. This show is the first of its kind in the world (spherical pyrotechnics)
one of the World's best fireworks display (sic)”
Several social media users have shared the video on Facebook with the same claim.
WHAT’S THE TRUTH?
We searched on YouTube using relevant keywords and found a video that was uploaded in January 2013 with the caption: “New Years 2013 - Synchronized Epic Music (Heart of Courage) - FWSim Fireworks Display (sic)”
The description of the video mentioned that it is a digitally created video and the software used for the same is FWSim.
FWSim is a fireworks simulator on which one can make customised fireworks using different effects that are available on the software.
On downloading the software, it shows a timeline, like any other editing software, on which a user can use different effects. Features like single fireworks, stepper, music and camera movement among others are available in the software.
We tried making our own simulation on the software using the features available in its library.
Thus, a digital simulation of fireworks has been falsely shared as Diwali celebrations in Mumbai’s Borivali West area.
