TRUE OR FALSE?
The video has been shared with a false claim. It is actually from 30 November 2006 when workers of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) vandalized the lobby of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.
WHAT WE FOUND OUT
A reverse image search on Yandex of a screen shot from the video, led us to a YouTube video which dates back to 25 September 2013.
A Google search of keywords “Mamata Banerjee” and “West Bengal Parliament” date before 31 December 2013, led us to the same video dated 18 April, 2011 on YouTube.
Another Google search of the same keywords dated before 30th April 2011 led us to DNA’s report on TMC’s rampage in the Legislative Assembly.
The incident took place on 30 November 2006 when Mamata Banerjee was arrested for violating prohibitory orders on entering Singur. As a protest, Banerjee along with TMC workers barged inside the Assembly premises and started shouting.
She alleged that the administration had acted “unconstitutionally” by not allowing her to enter Singur. Banerjee had earlier raised objections against TATA motors setting up a small car factory there. The TMC workers, in support, started breaking the furniture and destroying Assembly files.
