CLAIM
A video of police officials recovering ammunition from a motorcycle's seat has been circulating on social media with a claim that it is from the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.
The claim reads: “लोग कहते है की जम्मू -काश्मीर पुलिस जान बुझकर गाडी रोकती है. अब इसको क्या कहेगी जनता.”
It loosely translates to “People say police in Jammu & Kashmir stop vehicles intentionally. Now what will people say about this.”
Several social media users shared the video on Facebook and Twitter with the same claim.
The Quint received the video on WhatsApp, with a request for it to be verified.
TRUE OR FALSE?
The claim along the video is false. The video is not from Jammu and Kashmir. The incident took place in Pakistan's Kohat.
WHAT WE FOUND OUT
Firstly, the uniform of the police personnel is black shirt and khaki colour pants, which is usually worn by Pakistani Police personnel in some parts. It is not the uniform worn by police officials in Jammu and Kashmir.
Further dividing the video in separates key frames, we ran a Google reverse image search with keywords through which we found a YouTube video by a Dhanak Tv Rustam channel according to which the video is from Kohat, where the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police had stopped the smugglers.
We searched the incident with Kohat in Urdu and found a video on Facebook by Kohat Post uploaded on 17 September, confirming that the incident is from Kohat.
On looking up information from the above post, we found a video posted by DPO Kohat, the official page of Kohat Police, on 17 September.
