The Barala kin is not new to alleged kidnapping and abduction cases. Even as the furore around Vikas Barala allegedly stalking and attempting to kidnap Varnika Kundu gains speed, a case dating to May surfaced against two of Barala's relatives.

The case was supposedly filed against Vikram and Kuldeep Barala, Vikas' cousins, for allegedly abducting a minor girl from their ancestral village in Fatehabad.

According to India Today, the Barala duo abducted the girl on 7 May and threatened her from speaking about the abduction with the help of police, who also refrained from registering a case.

The next day, the villagers blocked the Chandigarh-Hisar highway, demanding action after which police rescued the minor and filed a case.

According to an NDTV report, though the FIR mentioned kidnapping, the men are currently out on bail. Police supported this claim by explaining that the minor did not mention kidnapping in her statement before the local magistrate.

The victim's family has reportedly agreed to give a fresh statement, if necessary.

The case has now been taken into cognisance by the court, which has deferred it for hearing on 31 August.
