The Supreme Court, on 5 July, agreed to examine the cash-for-votes sting that dogged the Tamil Nadu Assembly following the call for a trust vote in favour of the ruling E Palaniswamy government in February.

An expose by news channels, including Times Now, revealed that several Tamil Nadu MLAs had allegedly taken cash for their votes in the trust vote that put Cheif Minister Edapadi Palaniswamy at the head of the government.

According to a Times Now report, the Supreme Court has posted the plea seeking an examination for 11 July. The bench, headed by Justice Deepak Mishra, wanted to understand if there was any probation for conducting a secret ballot vote as part of the trust vote proceedings in an Assembly.

The Court has also sought Attorney General KK Venugopal’s assistance when the case is taken up.
