In an act nothing short of heroic, Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable K Shivaji jumped out of a moving local train in Chennai, and prevented what the local police described as an “attempted rape or molestation”.
After hearing a noise from the adjacent women’s compartment, Shivaji quickly jumped off the train and entered the compartment as the train halted on the station, where he found a woman lying on the compartment floor, unconscious and with her clothes torn off and man trying to force himself on her.
After rescuing the woman, the constable took her to the nearest hospital where she was provided with necessary medical aid. Pon Manickavel, Inspector-General of Police (Railways) congratulated Shivaji and rewarded him with Rs 5,000 for his act of courage, reported The New Indian Express.
“The victim had boarded the train at Velachery around 11:30 pm. I along with two other policemen were checking all compartments, when I spotted the victim reading a newspaper in a women’s compartment,” Shivaji told The New Indian Express.
“As the train was slowing down at Park station, I jumped off and rushed to the compartment, where I found the woman on the train floor partially unconscious and the man trying to force himself on her.” he added.
