Taking another pot shot at the government, Yashwant Sinha on Friday, in an interview with NDTV, said that everyone named in the Paradise Papers – including his son, Jayant Sinha – should be investigated, as long as BJP chief Amit Shah's son, Jay Shah is also brought under the scanner.
The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) on 5 November revealed the 'Paradise Papers', touting it to be the 'biggest data leak, which reveals trails of global corporates in secret tax havens'. Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha's name also figures on the list.
On 8 October, news website The Wire published a report alleging that BJP President Amit Shah’s son Jay Shah’s business grew 16,000-fold the year after Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed power in 2014.
In September, Sinha wrote a column in the Indian Express hitting out at the "Mess Arun Jaitley made of the economy". He went on to criticise the Modi government's economic measures writing, "A badly conceived and poorly implemented GST has played havoc with businesses and countless millions have lost their jobs".
Sinha’s attack on the Modi government’s implementation of the Goods & Services Tax, came after a critique of the attempt to demonetise high value currency notes of 500 and 1,000 rupees.
