Reddy Murder: Daughter Takes Case to EC, Seeks ‘Impartial’ Probe

The daughter of senior YSRCP leader YS Vivekananda Reddy, who was murdered earlier this month, met with the Chief Electoral Officer of Andhra Pradesh on Thursday, 21 March, to complain about the politicisation of her father’s death and demanded an impartial probe into the incident.

Speaking to reporters after meeting CEO Gopal Krishna Dwivedi, Sunitha Reddy said that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had been making several statements which could divert the attention of the investigation being undertaken by a Special Investigation Team (SIT).

“False allegations are being made that there are internal clashes in our family. There are 700 members in our family and differences are very common in such big families. Let the SIT work in a fair manner. As the investigation is underway, I am sure the truth will come out,” she was quoted as saying.

The CEO has sought a report from the state government over the case and assured Sunitha that he would take up the entire controversy with the Election Commission of India in New Delhi.

YS Vivekananda Reddy, former MP and uncle of leader of Opposition YS Jaganmohan Reddy, was murdered on 15 March in Pulivendula in Kadapa district, while he was alone at home. While initially it was believed that he succumbed to a cardiac arrest, police investigation concluded that he was murdered. While the YSRCP alleged that the TDP could have been behind the killing, the TDP alleged that Jagan’s family could have killed him for political gains.

Earlier in the week, Sunitha had slammed rumour mongering around her father’s death and has appealed against its politicisation.

While the YSRCP has demanded a CBI probe, expressing doubts over the state police, Sunitha has said that she was satisfied with the SIT probe. "The SIT is working tirelessly," Sunitha said last week.
