Rajinikanth thanked his fans for making him “a true Tamillian,” on the last day of his official fan-interaction session, on 19 May. “I lived in Karnataka for 23 years and in Tamil Nadu for 43 years. Although I am from Karnataka, you welcomed me and made me true Tamilian,” he said.

I have responsibilities and work, same with you. Let’s do it, but when the ultimate war comes, we all will see.

Democracy has deteriorated, he said, adding that the time was ripe to usher in change.

There are senior people in politics, there are national parties, but what do we do when system is bad? Democracy has deteriorated...The system needs to be changed. A change has to brought in the minds of people, only then will the country come on the right path.

Speculation is rife about whether the star will join politics, despite his constant denial of the same. At a previous fan meet, Rajinikanth said he was not affiliated to any political party and said that he would tell his fans the day he decided to join politics. On Thursday, he told reporters to refrain from asking political questions.

Reports about Rajinikanth’s political ambitions gained momentum since the demise of CM J Jayalalithaa, with some claiming that the BJP had approached him to join the party. On Monday, Rajinikanth said that he would join politics if it was “god’s will” – setting the rumour mills in motion once again.

My life is in the hands of God. I’m not sure what he has in store for me. But I’ll always perform the duty that he bestows on me. So, don’t feel disappointed if I don’t enter politics...Money-minded people will be shunned. So, I warn you now itself to stay away.
