Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Wednesday, 26 December, to discuss various issues pertaining to the state.
This was KCR’s first meeting with the Prime Minister after being sworn-in for a second term.
Rao discussed a variety of issues with the prime minister, including release of funds for 10 backward districts, setting up of a separate high court for Telangana, Kendriya Vidyalayas in new districts, reported PTI.
He also reiterated the demand for the transfer of the Bison/Polo ground, a defence land in Secunderabad, for the construction of the new Secretariat, establishment of the Indian Institute of Informational Technology (IIIT) in Karimnagar and establishment of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) at Hyderabad, news agency, IANS reported.
PM Modi responded to Roa’s requests positively, IANS reported citing Chief Minister Office notice.
Before coming to Delhi on Monday, KCR had met his West Bengal and Odisha counterparts Mamata Banerjee and Naveen Patnaik. He had said that his mission was to form a non-Congress, non-BJP front and that he will unveil a plan for it soon.
KCR is also scheduled to meet Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Samajwadi Party (SP) chiefs Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav.
SP leader Akhilesh Yadav has said that he would visit Hyderabad in the coming days to meet Rao. He said he would meet Rao after 6 January in Hyderabad as he could not be in Delhi on December 25 and 26 as planned earlier. Earlier, the TRS chief had planned to meet Akhilesh Yadav in Delhi at the residence of SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav.
Following the meeting between Rao and Modi, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday during a press meeting in Amaravati said the TRS president's actions didn't match his words, adding that he wonders whether he (Roa) briefed Modi on the formation of the proposed Federal Front, IANS reported.
Naidu said KCR who was calling on leaders of various parties till the other day had now met Modi.
Naidu, whose party pulled out of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) early this year, recently joined hands with the Congress and is trying to forge an anti-BJP alliance for the 2019 elections.
