A day after being suspended from BJP, Lok Sabha MP and former cricketer Kirti Azad slammed the party’s move, stating that he was punished for speaking the truth and highlighting corruption in the DDCA scam.

Azad made an appeal to Prime Minister Modi asking him to step in and tell him where he did wrong.

Highlights of Azad’s interaction with media in Ahmedabad on Thursday morning:

  • I have been raising my voice against corruption in DDCA for 9 years. Was I punished for that? What was my mistake? There is a lot of ambiguity on the issue.
  • For 9 years, no party member has made this (DDCA issue) an issue.
  • Received notice, will respond to it. Subramanian Swamy will help me draft it.
  • If I met someone from another party, at least my party should tell me specifically who that is. I don’t want to embarrass anyone. Prime Minister should tell me what I did wrong.

Last evening Azad made some damning allegations against Finance Minister Arun Jaitely. In response to a question, Azad said,

Arun Jaitley wants to silence all the voices in the party that are against him.

When asked if he thinks he was suspended because Jaitley wanted him out, Azad responded in the affirmative. The MP from Darbhanga demanded that the party tell him when and where he had committed anti-party activities, since he never spoke against the party.

Azad stated that he never said Arun Jaitley was involved in corruption. Azad also said that the Finance Minister himself slapped no defamation case against him but the party has acted. Azad said that he and his family members were being targeted by the “very intelligent, very articulate Mr Jaitley”.
