Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing a campaign rally in West Bengal’s Cooch Behar on Sunday, 7 April, took pot shots at state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

He said that the way Banerjee is “showering abuses” at him and criticising the Election Commission shows how scared she is. He also referred to her as the “speed breaker of Bengal”.

“The more you chant 'Modi Modi', the more someone loses their sleep. You know who they are? 'Speed breaker'. The speed breaker of West Bengal... Didi. She is losing her sleep and is taking out her anger on her officers... on Election Commission,” Modi said, as per ANI.

Didi is fast losing political ground, he added.

He also attacked the West Bengal CM for encouraging political goons to spread violence.

“By letting loose goons in Bengal, Didi has dashed hopes of maanush (people),” Modi said.

“The promise of ‘Ma Maati Maanush’ is on one hand and the truth of TMC on the other hand. For vote bank politics, Didi forgot ‘Ma’ and sided with those who raise slogans of ‘Bharat ke tukde tukde’. This is an insult to ‘Ma’.”

Didi betrayed 'Maati' when she tried to protect infiltrators for her political benefit, he added.
