UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has reinstated four district chiefs of Samajwadi party who were sacked by his uncle Shivpal Yadav.
Akhilesh has called a meeting of party MLAs at 10 am on Thursday to discuss upcoming assembly polls.
Speaking at Uttar Pradesh Pravasi Divas 2017 in Lucknow, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said that they’ve done all the work with Mulayam Singh’s blessings till now and will continue to do so.
Saying that no one can tear the father-son duo apart, he added:
Mulayam Singh Yadav and son Akhilesh Yadav have reportedly reached common ground following a two-hour-long meeting, NDTV reported.
Mulayam, who was replaced as the Samajwadi Party chief on Sunday by Akhilesh, will assume the position again.
In turn, Akhilesh will take a call on the party’s candidates. Shivpal Yadav, who was ousted from the party by Akhilesh, will be given an integral national role in the party, it reported.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, senior Samajwadi Party leader, Azam Khan said Mulayam Singh Yadav is positive about the situation and has communicated to him that he is looking for a solution to the issue at hand.
Amid talks of a possible truce between the two warring factions in the Samajwadi Party, Ram Gopal Yadav said:
“There won’t be any compromise in the party. We will fight elections under Akhilesh as national president. About the election symbol, the decision will be taken by the EC.”
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has reached father and Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav’s residence in Lucknow.
Coming out of a meeting with the Election Commission, Ram Gopal Yadav said that he, along with other Akhilesh supporters, told the poll body that “90 percent of MLAs are supporting Akhilesh Yadav ji and hence the party led by him must be considered as the Samajwadi Party”.
Mulayam Singh Yadav on Sunday had issued two orders – one, announcing son Akhilesh’s National Executive meet unconstitutional; and second, sacking vice president Kiranmoy Nanda. Mulayam’s signatures on both, however, do not match, reported The Times of India.
According to several reports, Mulayam Singh Yadav’s claim on the party symbol is stronger than Akhilesh’s. Sources also claim that Akhilesh and Ram Gopal Yadav’s re-induction into the party after disqualification is “not on papers”.
On Monday, the Yadav clan headed to Delhi where Mulayam Singh Yadav approached the Election Commission in a bid to stake claim over the party’s 'cycle' symbol, hours after cancelling the 5 January party convention called by him.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, who deposed his father from the post of national party president, is likely to meet the full three-member Election Commission in Delhi on Tuesday with the same claim. However, reports suggest that he could very well give the trip to Delhi a miss and in his absence, his camp could be represented by Ram Gopal Yadav.
The Election Commission sources say it will intervene after hearing arguments from both side.
According to constitutional experts, in all likelihood, the poll panel could freeze the party symbol and allot new symbols to both the factions to contest the assembly elections scheduled this year.
This might come as a blow to both sides as the Samajwadi Party ‘cycle’ is a recognised symbol in UP.
