Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav hit back at Rahul Gandhi just days after the Congress president termed the SP-BSP-RLD alliance in Uttar Pradesh an opportunistic one. Launching a scathing attack, Yadav said, “The Congress is the biggest betrayer party in the country.”
Referring to a recent review petition filed by "a Congress leader" in the Supreme Court about an old disproportionate assets case against Mulayam Yadav and his family, Akhilesh Yadav, according to a Hindustan Times report, said
Earlier in the week, Rahul Gandhi had taken a dig at the Akhilesh Yadav-Mayawati-Ajit Singh alliance by calling them opportunistic and afraid of standing up to the BJP. During a rally at Badaun, Gandhi had stated, “The CBI and ED have their keys. They could not speak freely due to their fear but I can speak freely.”
While initial talks to include Congress as part of the grand alliance between the SP, BSP and RLD fell through, the latest round of attacks between the two-party chiefs signals a further deterioration in the uneasy relationship between the parties.
The SP-BSP-RLD alliance had decided not to field candidates from Raebareli and Amethi seats that Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi represent in the Lok Sabha.
