Less than a week after an RTI query revealed that Baba Ramdev was never on the Padma Awards list, the Yoga Guru has sprung a surprise.

Known for his closeness to New Delhi, Ramdev has gone all out in praising Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi.

In an interview to Hindi News Channel Aaj Tak (reported on the Times of India) Ramdev said that Rahul has given a “lifeline to virtually dead Congress”.

Such a big political house (Congress) was bogged down by inertia. But it is back on its wheels now.

But the surprises don’t end there. Baba Ramdev also went ahead and criticised Modi Govt Ministers, calling them “arrogant”.

Barring Modi, Arun Jaitley and Amit Shah, most people have changed their phone numbers. This is not appropriate. Besides, they should address the genuine grievances of people. Kuchh to kaam karo (Their work should show)! Some people have become arrogant. This needs to be rectified immediately. After all, they have to face elections the next time.

While heaping praise on the Congress Vice President, Ramdev also lauded the efforts of the opposition in cornering the Govt.

Congress has succeeded in cornering the government on development and farmers’ issues. Now it’s for the government to win back the confidence of farmers. They will have to formulate a new farm policy.

To a specific question on Rahul Gandhi’s “suit-boot ki sarkar” slogan against Modi, the Yoga Guru added,

Suit boot pahanne se koi apradhi ho jaata hai kya (Does anyone become a criminal by wearing a suit)? But the way they dress, most people in the BJP, even the backwards and Dalits, give the impression that they are moneyed. This perception should change.

Ramdev’s criticism will certainly not go down too well with the Modi’s Govt. We wonder is his recent change of track has something to do with the Padma Awards snub?
