Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, 9 May, hit out at Congress President Rahul Gandhi for reportedly having declared his intention of becoming the prime minister in 2019.
Addressing a rally in Karnataka’s Kolar, Modi said:
On 8 May, Rahul Gandhi, for the first time, reportedly accepted – albeit off camera – that he hopes of sitting in the prime minister’s chair after the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Gandhi, who is on a campaign trail in Karnataka’s Bengaluru, said that he will become the prime minister if the Congress emerges as the single largest party in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
“Yes, why not”, the Congress president said on being asked if he can become the prime minister in 2019, according to ANI.
However, during a press conference, when he was asked about his hopes of being PM in 2019, Gandhi chose to focus on the upcoming Karnataka elections.
However, a few journalists confirmed that the Nehru-Gandhi scion accepted off-camera that he doesn’t mind prime ministership.
Gandhi, ahead of Karnataka elections, interacted with Bengaluru residents at the launch of the Samruddha Bharat Foundation. While, speaking to the press, the Congress chief also hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its chief ministerial candidate BS Yeddyurappa.
Gandhi also criticised BJP President Amit Shah by referring to him as a murder-accused.
With just four days remaining before Karnataka goes to polls, all political parties are in overdrive campaign mode. Almost two years after abandoning her poll campaign midway in Varanasi, United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Chairperson Sonia Gandhi appeared back on the scene and addressed a public rally in Bijapur on Tuesday.
