Drawing an analogy with the Pandava-Kaurava tussle in the epic Mahabharata, Rahul Gandhi said that the fight between his party and the BJP in Gujarat was one between “truth and lies”, where the truth lay on the Congress’ side.
Gandhi said that while the prime minster was armed with his “government, police, army, governments in Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh”, he had truth on his side “and we need nothing other than truth”.

During his ongoing rally in Gujarat’s Bharuch, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi reluctantly targeted Finance Minister Arun Jaitley again. The Gandhi scion questioned NDA’s dependence on a certification from the World Bank and said, “Why do we need an approval from a foreign institution when the citizens are unhappy with the state of the economy?”
Talking to the press from the top of his campaign bus in Bharuch, Gandhi rejected the ‘Ease of Doing Business’ report and said that the ground reality is different. “Ask any of the small business owners in Gujarat how much ease they are enjoying in doing business.”
He also targeted NDA’s silence over allegations against Amit Shah’s son, Jay.
Speaking at a political rally in Dayadra, Gandhi asked why petrol prices are going down in world over but not in India. “Who is benefiting from it?” he asked.
Addressing a rally in Bharuch district of Gujarat, Gandhi said there is an undercurrent of dissatisfaction and unhappiness over the BJP’s policies of GST and demonetisation. “The GDP dropped by 2 percent but they didn’t stop there. We warned them to implement the GST carefully. We told them the rate shouldn’t exceed 18 percent and that there shouldn’t be five slabs,” he told the crowd.
“Small time businessmen have to file 3 forms every month. They don't have accountants. They come to me and tell me, ‘Rahul ji I can't understand the rates... I sell miscellaneous items,’” said the Congress scion.
The Congress VP also took a dig at the Centre, after Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that India’s jump in the World Bank’s ‘Ease of Doing Business’ index is an indication of the positive effect of Modi’s economic reforms.

“Yesterday (31 October), quoting a foreign organisation, Modiji said India has improved in ease of doing business. I urge Jaitley to go to small-time traders and ask them how they do business... they will tell you there’s no ease of doing business,” Gandhi said.
Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi arrived in Vadodara, Gujarat, on Wednesday, 1 October. He will address a public rally in Bharuch later in the day.
Gujarat Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani said he will not meet the Congress vice president.
In a Facebook post, Mevani said, "I request media friends that please do not share this wrong news that I am going to meet Rahul Gandhi (sic)."
Members of the Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti met Gujarat Congress leaders on Monday, 30 October, but no agreement could be reached on the assurance about quotas for the Patels – a precondition set by PAAS leader Hardik Patel for extending support to the party in the Assembly polls.
Last week, Hardik Patel threatened to disrupt Gandhi's proposed rally in Surat if the main Opposition party in Gujarat did not make it clear how it will provide quotas to the Patidar community. However, he has now said he will not oppose the rally.
Rahul Gandhi will spearhead the Congress’ campaign for the third time in poll-bound Gujarat from 1 to 3 November.
