Congress President Rahul Gandhi, who is on a three-day visit to Karnataka, visited Baglakot and Bilajpur districts of the state, on Sunday, 25 February.
Addressing a gathering at Mallikarjun High School Ground in Vijayapura's Mulawad, he said that the Congress as a party is inspired by the ideology of Basavanna, a 12th Century Lingayat philosopher who spread social awareness through the Bhakti movement.
He attacked PM Narendra Modi, asking him to ‘practise what he preaches, especially when he mentions Basavanna in his long speeches’.
“The next time that PM Modi comes to Karnataka, ask him if he believes in Basavanna's policy of ‘practise what you preach’,” Gandhi said.
Gandhi then praised CM Siddaramaiah for waiving loans worth upto Rs 8,000 crore.
Gandhi also flagged off the Vrukshathon, the annual marathon to promote environment, water and tree conservation, in Karnataka on Sunday, 25 February.
Sporting a yellow T-shirt, he and hundreds of people from all walks of life descended at the entrance of Gol Gumbaz, a 17th century mausoleum for Sultan Mohammed Adil Shah, the 7th ruler of Adil Shahi dynasty and head of Bijapur sultanate, to take part in the run.
(The Quint, in association with BitGiving, has launched a crowdfunding campaign for an 8-month-old who was raped in Delhi on 28 January 2018. The baby girl, who we will refer to as 'Chhutki', was allegedly raped by her 28-year-old cousin when her parents were away. She has been discharged from AIIMS hospital after undergoing three surgeries, but needs more medical treatment in order to heal completely. Her parents hail from a low-income group and have stopped going to work so that they can take care of the baby. You can help cover Chhutki's medical expenses and secure her future. Every little bit counts. Click here to donate.)
