Actor Prakash Raj on Saturday, 5 January, announced that he will be contesting the Lok Sabha elections in 2019 from the Bengaluru Central constituency, as an independent candidate.
The actor took to Twitter on 1 January 2019, to announce his political entry.
Prakash Raj has been vocal about his politics and has been a severe critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government ever since his close friend Gauri Lankesh, a journalist, was shot dead in Bengaluru.
Ahead of the Karnataka state Assembly elections in May 2018, he launched 'just asking', a series through which he poses questions to the Narendra Modi-led government.
The actor has also extended his support to several politicians including Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and his plans for a ‘Federal Front’, which would include a consortium of regional parties.
Earlier on 4 January, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) extended support to the actor-turned politician.
