Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, 15 November, returned to India after attending the ASEAN-India Breakfast Summit and East Asia Summit in Singapore.

PM Modi, while addressing the plenary session of the East Asia Summit, spoke on enhancing multilateral cooperation, economic and cultural ties among member nations. He reiterated India's commitment to a peaceful and prosperous Pacific region.

The Prime Minister on Wednesday also met US Vice President Mike Pence in Singapore on the sidelines of the summits. The two leaders discussed defence cooperation during the bilateral meet.

PM Modi Delivers Keynote Address at Singapore Fintech Festival

Addressing a gathering of 30,000 people in Singapore at the Fintech Festival, Prime Minister Modi said that it is an honour for him to be the first head of the government to deliver the keynote address.

“It is an acknowledgment of the financial revolution sweeping through India & transforming the lives of 1.3 billion people.”

During the address, Modi stressed upon his government’s “mission of inclusive development” and said that his government made financial inclusion a reality.

“Financial inclusion has become a reality for 1.3 billion Indians. We have generated more than 1.2 billion biometric identities in just a few years,” he added.

Speaking at the Fintech Festival, Modi said, “Rapidly rising digital transactions in India powered by Rupay & BHIM. Today, 128 banks in India are connected to UPI. Transactions on UPI grew 1,500 times in the last 24 months. Every month, the value of transaction is growing by over 30 percent,” Modi said.

PM Modi Holds Bilateral Talks With US Vice President Mike Pence

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US Vice President Mike Pence held talks on Wednesday on a wide range of bilateral and global issues of mutual interests including defence and trade cooperation, ways to counter terrorism and the need for maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific.

The two leaders had a warm meeting on the sidelines of the East Asia Summit here, Ministry of External Affairs spokesman Raveesh Kumar said.

They had “productive discussion on all aspects of global strategic partnership based on growing convergence of interests on regional and global issues,” he said.

Pence referred to the upcoming 10th anniversary of the deadly Mumbai terror attack on 26 November and hailed cooperation between the two countries on countering terrorism, Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale told reporters after the meeting.

Modi thanked Pence and reminded him that in one way or other all the traces and all leads in the global terror attacks ultimately leads to a "single source and single place of origin", without naming any country or organisation.
