Manmohan Bathed With Raincoat On: PM’s Corruption Jibe Miffs Cong

PM Narendra Modi’s comments were met with loud rejection from the Opposition in Rajya Sabha.

Amidst ruckus and uproar in the Parliament, Congress MPs staged a walkout in the House. The walkout followed a comment by Narendra Modi against former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Wearing a raincoat while bathing is an art only Doctor (Manmohan Singh) knows.

Reacting to it, the Congress members shouted at the treasury benches and staged a walk out. They were joined by members of some other opposition parties.

PM Modi later attacked Congress for the walkout and said that if they breach decorum, they should have courage to listen to the response as well.

Manmohan Singh refused to comment on the remarks and said, “ I do not want to speak.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday and said that implementation of demonetisation in the country has given the world an unprecedented case study.

He added on the topic of demonetisation:

You quote foreign economists, I can quote 10 of them on the fact that such an action hasn’t been taken in the world ever.

The Prime Minister said his governments war against corruption and black money was not a political fight and said it was meant to empower honest people.

There is no denying that corruption has spread its roots in society. The biggest sufferers of this parallel economy are the poor whose rights are snatched and the middle class. How long will we continue to brush things under the carpet and move on? There is no reason to believe this a political fight or to create problems for any political party.

Defending his 8 November decision to demonetise Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes, Modi said the step was to empower the honest.

Honest forces will not be empowered unless harsh steps are taken against the dishonest. The ultimate beneficiaries of these steps will be the poor. These steps will empower the honest.

The Prime Minister also added that former bureaucrat Madhav Godbole in a book that he wrote in 1971 claimed that Indira Gandhi was advised by the then finance minister to demonetise, but she had rejected the idea.

This comment was also met with loud rejection from the Opposition in the House.
