72-year-old Pinarayi Vijayan was sworn in as the 12th Chief Minister of Kerala at a function at the Central Stadium at 4 pm in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, Politburo member Prakash Karat, actor Mammootty, and thousands of party workers.

Earlier, Vijayan met Kerala Governor Justice (retd) P Sathasivam and handed over a list of his 19-member cabinet.

Vijayan told reporters at Raj Bhavan that the people have a lot of expectations from this government.

Before proceeding to Raj Bhavan, Vijayan visited AKG Centre, the headquarters of CPI(M). He was cheered on by hundreds of party workers and supporters on his way to the Raj Bhavan.

In the 16 May Assembly polls, the CPI(M)-led LDF was voted in to power by winning 91 seats in the 140-member Kerala Assembly, overtaking the Congress-led UDF which managed only 47 MLAs. BJP and an independent candidate won one seat each.
