After a PIL was filed by a lawyer seeking a CBI probe into the death of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, DMK leader MK Stalin has now urged the Centre to release a detailed report on the medical treatments given to the late CM. He also demanded the state government release a white paper report on her demise to end rumours.

“The death of the former chief minister has affected the whole state. Even when she was in the hospital, many political parties and their leaders had asked the hospital as well as the government to release a report on the type of treatment given to her. But they refused and there were plenty of rumours. Now, there are rumours on her death. Like PMK chief S Ramadoss, I also request the government to release a report on the treatment given to Jayalalithaa. There is no politics in this,” Stalin told media during his visit to the Vardah cyclone-affected areas in Chennai.

Amma’s ‘Suspicious’ Death

On Wednesday, Saravanan, a lawyer who reportedly represents the Tamil Nadu Telugu Yuva Sakthi – a Chennai-based NGO – moved the Supreme Court through a writ petition. The PIL requested access to all the medical documents relating to the late CM’s treatment and her death at the Apollo Hospital in Chennai.

According to reports, the petition alleges that her death is suspicious and that those around her may have intentionally worked to worsen her medical condition.

The petition also seeks an order stating that all commercial or financial transactions relating to Jayalalithaa’s wealth be stayed till the conclusion of the Disproportionate Assets case.

Jayalalithaa, her aide Sasikala, Sasikala’s niece Ilavarasi and Jayalalithaa’s adopted-and-later-abandoned foster son Sudhakaran are accused in the disproportionate asset case, which is still pending in the apex court.

The Tamil Nadu Telugu Yuva Sakthi is not the only organisation to seek a probe into the 68-year-old leader’s death. RSS ideologue S Gurumurthy also sought an investigation into whether proper procedure was followed in Jayalalithaa’s treatment.

Jayalalithaa was admitted to the Apollo Hospital in Chennai on 22 September. She breathed her last at 11:30 pm on 5 December. Her funeral was attended by tens of thousands of people.
