Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, Sanjay Singh and Durgesh Pathak have filed a defamation case against party legislator, Devinder Sehrawat.

AAP’s Punjab women wing chief, Baljinder Kaur, on Tuesday, had filed a complaint with the state Women Commission against the party’s Delhi MLA Devinder Sehrawat, alleging he was “defaming” the women in the state.

This happened a day after Sehrawat wrote a letter to AAP national convener and Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, alleging that women were being exploited on the pretext of giving tickets to fight Punjab Assembly polls which is due next year.

Responding to it, Sehrawat said he stands by “every word I’ve (he has) written in that letter and when the case comes in the court, we will take appropriate action.”

He said filing a defamation case at this time is all “politics and posturing”.

The people will decide who should rule Punjab. Should the Punjabis rule Punjab? Should those rule Punjab who are not even able to start a minor enquiry and find out if an observation has been given and push the thing into the court?

AAP city Convener, Dilip Pandey said that he too will file a separate defamation suit against Sehrawat soon.

Former AAP leader Hardip Sigh Kingra along with Sanjay Singh and Durgesh Pathak filed separate cases of criminal defamation, claiming Sehrawat had leveled separate “false defamatory allegations” against them in a press conference recently.

A delegation led by Kaur, who is also AAP’s candidate from Talwandi Sabo, met chief of Punjab Women Commission, Paramjit Kaur Landra and filed a formal complaint against the Delhi legislator. Kaur said she was hurt after reading Sehrawat’s letter which “was an attempt at defaming the women of Punjab”.

Meanwhile, Jat Samaj has called a ‘mahapanchayat’ in support of Shehrawat, on Saturday, near Anaj Mandi, Najafgarh.
