PM Modi Looks Forward to GST Spirit

Speaking outside the Parliament, ahead of the Monsoon Session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said:

The first shower after a hot summer fills the earth with fragrance. Similarly, the success of GST will fill this Session with a new vigour. ‘Going Stronger Together’ is the second name of the GST spirit. GST shows the good that can be achieved when all parties come together and work for the nation.

Mentioning the farmers, he lauded them for their hard work.

We salute our farmers who have been ensuring food security for the country with their hard work. This session begins by remembering those farmers.

During the media briefing, PM Modi also said that he believes all political parties and governments will take key decisions in favour of the country’s progress this Session.

34 Bills on Agenda For the Session

The government's agenda for the Monsoon Session of the Parliament, beginning on 17 July, includes a total of 34 bills.

Among the 16 new ones that are to be introduced are the Consumer Protection Bill and two bills to implement the GST in Jammu and Kashmir, and another bill to amend the Citizenship Act to allow certain illegal immigrants to get Indian citizenship.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar said that apart from 16 new bills, 21 bills are pending in the Lok Sabha while 42 bills are pending in the Rajya Sabha, many of which would be considered for passing during the Session.

Cong to Corner MP Govt on Narottam Mishra

The Monsoon Session of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly is likely to be stormy with the Opposition Congress warning on 16 July of "strong protests" if senior minister Narottam Mishra, disqualified by the Election Commission recently, attends the House.

If we find Mishra in our midst during the Monsoon Session beginning tomorrow (17 July), we will file a defamation suit against Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Speaker Sitasharan Sharma for not terminating his (Mishra’s) membership to the House.
Ajay Singh, Leader of the Opposition

Mishra, the BJP MLA from Datia seat, was disqualified by the EC on 23 June for filing wrong accounts of the expenditure for 2008 Assembly polls and over charges of paid news.

The Congress also said they would raise the "plight" of farmers during the 12-day-long Session.

Provide Security to MLAs on Premises: BJP to Speaker Sharma

A delegation of the BJP ministers on 16 July requested Speaker Sitasharan Sharma to provide security to MLAs on the premises of the Assembly in view of the voting for Presidential polls, citing Ajay Singh's statement on likelihood of "unpleasant situation" if Mishra attends the proceedings.

The delegation comprising Gaurishanker Shejwar, Umashanker Gupta and Vishwas Sarang handed over a memorandum to the Speaker.

“The threat of (Ajay) Singh should not be taken lightly in the wake of the recovery of explosive stuff in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly,” the memorandum stated.
