The Ethics Committee of Parliament will be meeting to discuss on Vijay Mallya at 4:30 pm.
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi was served a showcause notice by the Ethics Committee of Parliament on Monday, asking whether he had declared himself as a British citizen during his stay in the United Kingdom.
BJP leader Subramanian Swamy had written to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding that Rahul Gandhi be stripped off his parliamentary membership, as well as Indian citizenship. The Congress party dismissed Swamy’s charge.
Rahul Gandhi’s reply on this issue was brief. He said, “We’ll deal with that.”
Congress criticised the BJP for not taking strict action against liquor baron Vijay Mallya.
A few Congress members chanting in unison “Vijay Mallya ko wapas lao, wapas lao! Wapas lao!” (Bring Vijay Mallya back, bring him back!)
The party also urged the government to take down their “fair and lovely scheme” and take decisive action against both Vjiay Mallya and Lalit Modi.
The Indian banks and judiciary have been making efforts to recover Rs 9,000 crore dues from billionaire Vijay Mallya. However, Mallya in a recent interview with The Sunday Guardian indicated that this may not be the right time to return to India.
Bahujan Samaj Party leader, Mayawati attacked the RSS for its comment on privileged sections of the society seeking reservations. She demanded if only the economically backward are entitled to the reservation, and not the socially backward.
Arun Jaitley clarified that there will no change in the current reservation policy.
Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad’s comments on RSS rocked the Rajya Sabha on Monday. Earlier on Sunday Azad had said:
BJP lashed out at the Congress, saying that if RSS was so threatening then the Congress should have taken action when they were in the government.
Ghulam Nabi Azad denied comparing the Islamic State terrorist organisation with RSS.
Jaitley said the Leader of the Opposition should realise that this time he has somewhere slipped on this comment. ] “Intentionally or unintentionally Azad has given respect to ISIS in his speech”, he quipped.
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi gives adjournment motion in Lok Sabha on crop damage issue due to hailstorm in 2015. Rahul urged the government to take immediate action, so that further loss could be averted this year.
Minister of Urban Development, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation and Parliamentary Affairs, Venkaiah Naidu agreed that Rahul Gandhi has raised an important issue.
The government however, disallowed the adjourment motion moved by Gandhi.
