Nitish Kumar has resigned as the Chief Minister of Bihar. The decision to quit came after a meeting of JDU MLAs on Wednesday evening. Nitish Kumar submitted his resignation to Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi. After the resignation, Nitish Kumar said that he waited for clarifications from RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and Tejashwi Prasad, but received none.

Soon after CM’s resignation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended congratulations to Nitish Kumar for ‘joining fight against corruption’.

Stay tuned for live updates on the Bihar CM Nitish Kumar’s resignation news.

Earlier in the day, RJD President Lalu Prasad ruled out resignation by his son Tejaswi Prasad Yadav as Bihar's deputy chief minister in the wake of the CBI filing an FIR against him as an accused in land-for-hotels case.

"Has Nitish asked for the resignation of Tejaswi Yadav?" Prasad asked in reply to a volley of questions by scribes regarding JD(U) insistence that the embattled deputy chief minister should come clean on accusations in public which is politically being construed as JD (U)'s demand of his resignation.

"Are they (JD(U)) police that we have to answer them?" he shot back to another question that JD(U) spokesmen have been regularly saying that Tejaswi Yadav has to come clean in the public domain.

In its legislature party meeting, the RJD had earlier too ruled out resignation of Tejaswi Yadav.

Lalu Prasad Yadav, who was speaking after a meeting of the RJD legislature party at the 10, Circular Road residence of Rabri Devi, said,

The RJD legislators will discharge their functions under the leadership of Tejaswi Yadav and Rabri Devi in the state assembly and legislative council respectively.

The RJD's decision on the resignation issue comes ahead of the JD(U) legislature party meeting, chaired by Nitish Kumar, to be held on Wednesday evening.
