After his tug of war with Jitan Ram Manjhi over mangoes and litchis, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar celebrated World Environment Day by planting two mango saplings at his 7, Circular Road residence in Patna.
“People should inculcate the habit of planting at least one tree or plant every year in their houses,” Kumar said.
Planting trees is a must for protecting the environment and enhancing natural beauty. It saves us from the harmful effects of climate change like too much heat, drought and too much rain.
– Nitish Kumar, Bihar CM
The Bihar Chief Minister has made it a point to plant a few trees on the occasion of the World Environment Day every year. He said the green cover in the state has increased from 9.79% in 2011 to 12.86% at present after the agriculture roadmap was implemented.
The aim was to increase it to 15% by 2017 by planting 24 crore trees, he said adding, in 2014-15 financial year, around 12.71 crore trees were planted across the state.
Former CM Jitan Ram Manjhi alleged that police personnel were deployed at his former residence to prevent him from enjoying fresh mangoes and litchis this season.
